Good Citizens touted by DAR
S
The Tullahoma Chapter of the NSDAR (National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution) recently recognized three local recipients of the DAR Good Citizens Award at their April meeting. The young women receiving these awards hailed from Coffee County, Moore County and Tullahoma City Schools as follows:
Kailee Rossman, Coffee County; Abby Neal, Moore County; and Sarah Wallace Whitt, Tullahoma City Schools. Each winner received a DAR Good Citizen certificate and pin from Cynthia Williamson, chair of the DAR Good Citizens Committee for the Tullahoma Chapter NSDAR.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
The young ladies were each asked to present their respective winning essays for receipt of this award at their school:
– Kailee Rossman focused her ideas on keeping the United States secure encouraging everyone to ‘take action’ through community unity with pride and gratitude for those who paved the way for our national security.
– Abby Neal described the need to preserve our American heritage. She encouraged advocacy for freedom of speech and religion, gratitude for the benefits of our tax dollars that afford good schools, and stressed the need for environmental awareness.
– Sarah Wallace Whitt reminded us that as Americans we should always be growing and constantly strive for peace and renewed commitment toward freedom. She encouraged volunteering and paying tribute to our military service men and women.
The Tullahoma Chapter of NSDAR is happy to recognize these exemplary young women for their qualities that encourage good citizenship and patriotism within their communities
