Westwood’s season came to an early end after losing a hard fought match to Lewisburg in the second round of the DRVC Tournament on Wednesday at Forrest.

In their first round game on Tuesday, Westwood, the #2 seed in the tournament, played their first round match with #3 seed Cascade.

The Champions would get the first round upset, placing Westwood in the loser’s bracket for Wednesday.

Awaiting the Lady Rockets were #5 seed Lewisburg, who lost their first round matchup with #4 seed Community.

Westwood and Lewisburg had met twice in the regular season, and even though Westwood prevailed in those two contests, neither team won a set by more than five points. That theme would continue in their postseason meeting.

Westwood got off to a great start, scoring six unanswered points to open the first set, but Lewisburg would battle back, eventually taking a 12-11 lead midway through.

The Lady Rockets would retake the lead and pull within two points of closing out the set, leading 23-20, but the Tigerettes erased the lead and won the set 26-24.

In the second set, Westwood again pulled out with an early advantage, 5-1, but the Tigerettes continued to make the game a battle, with the set being tied 9-9 and 20-20 at different points.

Westwood was one point away from tying the match at one set apiece by taking a 24-21 lead, but the Tigerettes scored five unanswered points to win 26-24 and take the match 2-0.

With the loss, Westwood ends their season with a 9-6 overall record.
