Baker Bros. and Case Knives celebrate 135 years of fine cutlery

W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company, the maker of Case Knives, is celebrating this holiday season a milestone 135-year anniversary with the local Case authorized Gold Dealer, Baker Brothers Pharmacy.

As part of the holiday sales imitative a Case sales circular with some exclusive items and holiday pricing will be included in the Manchester Times and the Tullahoma News.

Case District Field Manager Will Heaslet said the exclusive Razor knife returns as this year’s vault pattern.

The Case Razor that dates back to before the 1940s was developed as a travel shaver. It features the Barlow pattern and an elongated bolster. It is available in single blade and two-bladed versions with different handle materials.

“That knife is special because if you participate in the holiday circular, there’s what we call the magician’s knife – one side is red, one side is green,” Heaslet said. “And there is a shield on each side. Normally on a Case knife it’s the same color and a shield on only one side.”

Heaslet said Case is still a traditional pocketknife in a marketplace full of multi-tools.

“We are very unique in our history and our patterns from Stockman to Trapper to Peanut,” he said. “We are 135 years old, there are a lot of old things that come in the dating of knives – something the collector loves to see and loves to do.”

Quality is part of what makes Case knives a collectable commodity.

“Quality is something we stand behind,” Heaslet said. “We do have a lifetime limited guarantee on our knives. If you have a rivet or a pin or something that is normal wear and tear, we will warranty the knife. But if you were to break it using it as a pry bar, we’ll fix that blade as well and there’ll be a slight charge.”

Case Knives values its partnership with small town retailers. Heaslet said Case is not in many of the box stores,

“Our heartbeat is right here in this type setting,” he said. “We really lean on the independent retailer for our success. That’s been that way since Case started.”

Heaslet said that in addition to the mom-and-pop hardware stores, Case retailers are local pharmacies and even a hair salon in LaFollette, Tennessee.

“The biggest part (is) we have a lot of independent pharmacies that carry Case and do well with Case,” Heaslet said.
