Coffee County resident receives scam letter concerning property deed

The Coffee County Register of Deeds Office warned on Thursday, Nov. 21 that staff had received a scam letter that a Tullahoma resident received that fraudulently informed them that their property had been transferred.

The resident is then urged to obtain a copy of their deed for $89 from an address in Florida.

The form, which originates from an official-sounding, Clerks Property Office is not connected in any way to any government office. The form “recommends” that homeowners obtain a copy of their deed and a property assessment profile from their company.

According to information shared by Coffee County Register of Deeds, these letters look official but are a scam.

“On every Deed we record, we attach a typed notice to not send anyone money with an invoice for copies of documents they can obtain from our County Offices,” Toney said.
