CCMS wrestling places second in sectional; two wrestlers qualify for State

On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, the Coffee County Middle wrestling team took part in the TMSAA AA Section 2 Tournament at Warren County High School, placing second in the dual tournament and having two wrestlers qualify for the Girls’ State Meet.

In the dual tournament on Friday, the Red Raiders faced off against Soddy Daisy in the semifinals.

Jaidin Uselton (98 pounds), Tripp Trussler (106 pounds), Jesse Lester (130 pounds) and Toccoa Gaines (145 pounds) all won by a fall and Archer Rolefsson (82 pounds) won on a technical fall 17-1. Luke Warrick (138 pounds) and Ann Mainville (155 pounds) both won by forfeit.

Dyson Leverette (114 pounds), Andrew Boles (122 pounds), Justin Corbett Jr. (170 pounds), Joshua Mainville jr. (215 pounds) and Caden Harris (260 pounds) all lost their matches by fall, Austin Pitts (90 pounds) lost on a technical fall 15-0, Chase Thompson lost in a major decision 21-8 and both teams chose to forfeit the 185-pound weight class, but Coffee County won the match 41-39 to advance to the championship match against Warren County.

In the championship match, Rolefsson, Trussler, Boles and Joshua Mainville Jr. won by a fall and Warrick won in a 7-3 decision, but Austin Pitts, Avery Pitts, Leverette, Lester, Ann Mainville and Harris all lost by fall, Corbett lost in a 17-2 technical fall, Thompson lost in a 15-5 major decision and the Raiders forfeited the 185-pound weight class to give Warren County a 51-33 win.

With the loss, the Red Raiders placed second in the AA Section 2 Tournament and will not make the Dual Meet State Championship.

On Saturday, Coffee Middle had two girls qualify for the State Meet by finishing in the top two of their sectional bracket.

Alivia Jernigan placed first in the 128-pound division, defeating Madelyn Day of Soddy Daisy by a fall in the first round and beating Kyndra Foy of Warren County by a fall in the third round.

Zaila Hussey placed second in the 135-pound division, losing a 10-8 decision to Se’Maj Cosey of Dalewood in the first round, beating I’Breyon Wright of East Hamilton by a fall in the second round and defeating Abbie Wade of Loftis by a fall in the third round.

Ann Mainville placed third in the 145-pound division and Lilah Davis placed fourth in the 121-pound division.

Jernigan and Hussey will both represent Coffee County at the TMSAA Girls’ Wrestling State Championship, which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Cleveland Middle School.
