The Coffee County Middle School volleyball team was back in action Monday evening, welcoming Tullahoma for a cross-county matchup.
The Lady Raiders went the distance, but ultimately lost 2-1 to their cross county rival. The result also gave the Lady Cats a regular-season sweep after defeating Coffee County 2-1 in Tullahoma on August 25.
After falling 25-16 in the first set to kick off the night, the Lady Raiders got going in the second. A close start saw the two teams trading leads early on, before Coffee County broke a 15-15 tie and jumped out to take a 23-15 lead.
With the Lady Raiders needing two more points to take the set, the Lady Cats responded by winning eight straight points of their own to tie it at 23-23. Coffee County stopped the Tullahoma onslaught on the next point, but the Lady Cats followed up with the next one to make the score 24-24. The Lady Raiders were able to hold on from there, winning the next two points to win the second set 26-24 and tie the match at 1-1.
In the decisive third set, Tullahoma got out to a hot start by taking the first five points and then expanding this early lead to 7-1. Coffee County climbed back into it from there, winning the next six points to tie the set at 7 points apiece.
Tullahoma proceeded to take the next two points to regain some breathing room. On the other end, the Lady Raiders kept it close over the remainder of the set but ultimately fell 15-11 to bring the match to a close.
Coffee County will look to bounce back from this loss when it travels to Harris for a Wednesday match. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
