CHS volleyball tops Lawrence in five sets

The Coffee County volleyball team closed out the regular season with a win Thursday evening.

Traveling to Lawrence County, the Lady Raiders returned home with a 3-2 match victory. The win also avenged an earlier 3-2 loss to the Lady Cats in Manchester on Sept. 9.

Coffee County won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively, before Lawrence County came back to win the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-20 to tie the match at 2-2.

In the decisive fifth set, the Lady Raiders took care of business by winning 15-11 to seal the match.

Hayleigh Harris was the team’s kills leader, finishing with 11. Allysa Goon followed with nine. Danni Hillis added eight kills to finish just ahead of Morgen Spears with seven. Carrington Saner added six. Up next was Paisley Dyer with four kills. Taylor Brinkley had two.

Spears led the way in aces, finishing the match with five. Andon Selvog came away with three. Brinkley had two aces and was followed by Hillis and Harris with one each.

Hillis and Dyer shared the top spot for blocks with two each. Harris, Spears and Saner each had one.

Brinkley was the team’s assist leader, recording 19. Selvog followed with 17. Jenslee Nogodula picked up three assists. Up next was Isabelle Saner with two. Spears had one assist.

Nogodula took the top spot for digs with 24. Harris was credited with 14. Goon and Brinkley both notched four digs each. Hillis, Spears and Selvog each added three. Isabelle Saner followed with two digs. Carrington Saner had one.

Coffee County will now turn its attention to the postseason, which begins next week with the District 9-AAA tournament. The No. 3 seed Lady Raiders will open district tournament play with a home match against No. 6 seed Franklin County at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of this match will advance to the district tournament semifinals, which will be played at Tullahoma High School on Thursday. The District 9-AAA tournament championship will follow the semifinal matches at Tullahoma at 7 p.m. the same evening.
