After back-to-back road losses, Coffee County football dropped its third straight contest in its return home Friday night.

Resuming Class 6A-Region 6 play against Brentwood, the Red Raiders fell behind early on the way to a 49-7 loss. The result put Coffee County at 2-5 overall and 1-2 in region play, leaving the team in 5th place in the region standings.

Down 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Red Raiders fell further behind on the opening play of the second following an eight-yard run into the end zone from Bobby Grimes for another Bruin touchdown.

Opening its next drive on its own 20-yard line, Coffee County quarterback Kaysen Lowery proceeded to hit Kane Dixon for an 80-yard pass to reach paydirt and get the Red Raiders on the board. The ensuing extra point attempt sailed through the uprights, cutting the Brentwood lead to 14-7 with 11:33 left in the first half.

The Bruins did not wait long to respond, scoring once again on their next possession on a 37-yard pass from Gavin Strang to Jackson Allen to make it a two-possession game once more.

Brentwood went on to add two more touchdowns before halftime to go into the break leading Coffee County 35-7.

The Bruins continued to run away with the game as the second half got under way, scoring twice more before the clock struck zero to beat the Red Raiders by 42 points.

Coffee County now enters its bye week, with its final home game of the season against region foe Summit following on Oct. 17.

The Spartans will come into the matchup with a 1-6 overall record and an 0-3 record in region play, with region losses to Brentwood, Ravenwood and Shelbyville Central thus far. Summit also fell in its week 7 contest, losing 28-0 to Hendersonville on the road.

The game against Summit will kick off a string of three more region games to close out the Red Raiders’ regular-season schedule, with road matchups against Ravenwood and Shelbyville Central on deck.
