Viola native and lifelong resident, Charles Byron Smartt, III was born Jan. 5, 1948 died Sept. 20, 2025. After graduation from college, Charlie served in the United States Army. Charlie also spent many years working for the USDA in various counties across middle Tennessee. While he served his family and community in a variety of ways, his preferred job and hobbies were farming and working with horses and mules. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Byron and Sarah Elizabeth Baggett Smartt, II. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, and their children, Byron and wife Lori, Jamie and husband, Brian, John and wife, Laura; six grandchildren and his brother. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 5-8 p.m. at High Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 16 at Viola Cemetery with Jerry Lusk officiating.
