Festivities abound at Safe on the Square

Manchester’s historic square was busting at the seams on Halloween as anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 children flocked to the annual Safe on the Square.

The trick-or-treating event, organized by the city of Manchester along with Manchester Fire and Police Departments, sees the city square blocked off so that children and their parents can safely walk around in costumes and collect candy and other treats from local vendors.

A contest was also held to name the best decorated booth among the many vendors in attendance. The contest was judged by Vice Mayor Mark Messick and Alderman Thomas Crosslin.

Unity Medical Center won the contest for their Wizard of Oz themed booth that featured a backdrop of the city of Oz from the movie.

Costumes at the Safe on the Square varied and included popular characters from Toy Story, Fortnite, Garfield, Ghostbusters, fairy tales and many others.
