CHS wrestling takes on Rockvale, Page

The Coffee County Central High School wrestling team got on the road for a tri-meet against Rockvale and Page at Rockvale High School Thursday evening.
The Red Raiders took down the host Rockets 44-33, while the Lady Raiders came out on top of the Lady Rockets 18-12 to complete the sweep.
The Red Raiders were unable to do the same against Page, falling 58-16.
Against Rockvale, the Coffee County boys’ team’s winners included a win by fall at the 1:14 mark for Tanner Vernon over Jake Plageman in the 285 weight class. Competing in the 113 division, Giddian Mascari won by fall over Jeffery Bonk at the 3:37 mark. Marcus Uselton won by fall with 39 seconds on the clock over Samuel Abundes in the 120 class. Competing in the 132 weight division, Jesse Lester won by technical fall (19-3) over Ryerson Turner with 3:33 on the board.
Carlos Valle-Martinez picked up another win by fall for the Red Raiders in the 138 weight class, taking down Jacob Zamora with a fall at the 2:19 mark. William Barlow added a win by fall in the 157 division, coming out on top over Daniel Alvarez with four minutes on the clock. Competing in the 165 class, Eli McLean won by major decision (19-7) over Gerald Rollins. Kameron Stafford-Turner also picked up a technical fall win (21-5) in the 175 weight division over Isaiah Inmon with 5:17 on the board.
On the girls’ side, Coffee County’s wins over Rockvale included a victory for Jasmine Norris over Naomi Crowell in the 126 weight class via a win by fall at the 1:39 mark. Competing in the 132 division, Gabrielle Silva took down Kiyolah Jackson in a win by fall with 56 seconds on the clock. Jianna Bare added another win by fall for the Lady Raiders in the 145 class, coming out on top over Azlynn Brown with 20 seconds on the board.
Against Page, the Red Raiders’ winners included Valle-Martinez in the 138 weight class, winning by fall over Abraham Descalzo at the 1:58 mark. Barlow also came out on top over Shane Elder in the 157 division, winning via a 14-7 decision. McLean added a major decision win (16-6) over Nicholas Pasqualini in the 165 class. Competing in the 175 weight division, Stafford-Turner took down Huntley Peck in a 15-8 decision.
The lone girls’ matchup between Coffee County and Page pitted Norris against Sadie Shields in the 126 weight class, a contest that Norris won by fall at the 1:12 mark.
Coffee County will return home to host Riverdale in duals action on Dec. 2. Wrestling is set to begin at 6 p.m.
