Coffee County Middle School basketball kicked off the week at home with a district doubleheader against Harris Monday night.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams finished the evening with losses, starting with a 31-24 result for the Lady Raiders before the Red Raiders followed in a 46-27 defeat.

In the girls’ game, Coffee County kept Harris within reach throughout all four quarters, but was unable to break through.

After finishing the first quarter down 11-5, the Lady Raiders went into halftime trailing Harris 18-10. Two early third-quarter baskets from Brooklyn Carlton cut the deficit to 18-14, but Harris held Coffee County to one more free throw from Carlton through the quarter’s remainder on the way to taking a 22-15 lead.

The Lady Raiders continued to keep it close over the course of the fourth quarter, but Harris remained in control and went on to win by seven.

Carlton led the Coffee County offensive effort with nine points. Kinley Barker followed with six points. Kealey Branch and Brinley Frederik both knocked down four free throws to finish with four points each. Abbey Williams had a single basket from the stripe for one point.

In the ensuing boys’ game, a quick start for Harris put the Red Raiders in an early 6-0 hole. A bucket from Eli Morgan got Coffee County on the board, but it would be the team’s only first-quarter points on the way to entering the second quarter down 9-2.

The Harris lead continued to grow as the first half continued, with Coffee County held to four more points ahead of halftime to head into the break trailing 24-6.  The Red Raiders were able to score 10 points in the third quarter and 11 points in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough to break back into the game as Harris finished it out with a 19-point lead.

Morgan finished the night with 17 points. Braxtyn Swack added eight points. LT Carney had one basket for two points.

Coffee County will look to get back on track with a home matchup against East Tullahoma on Thursday.  Tipoff of the girls’ game is set for 6 p.m.
