PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Westwood swept by Community

Westwood Middle School’s basketball teams were back at home Thursday evening, welcoming Community for a district doubleheader.

Both the Lady Rockets and Rockets came out on the losing ends of their eighth grade night matchups, with the girls falling 46-11 before the boys fell 37-28 in the nightcap.

In the girls’ game, Makenzie Meacham led Westwood’s offensive effort with eight points. Adley Selvog had a single trey for three points.

In the boys’ game, Luke Christian was the Rockets’ scoring leader with 13 points. Kayden Campbell added six points. Brock Christian added four points, finishing just ahead of Hayes Shemwell with three points. Abe Norman had a single basket for two points.

With the regular season now complete, Westwood will turn its attention to the Duck River Valley Conference tournament, which will be held at Cascade Middle School December 15-18.

CCMS girls take down East Tullahoma

After dropping a close game against Harris three days prior, Coffee County Middle School girls’ basketball got back in the win column Thursday evening. Taking on East Tullahoma, the Lady Raiders came out on top this time around in a close battle, winning 31-28.

Kinley Barker led the way with nine points. Kealey Branch and Brooklyn Carlton both added seven points each. Brinley Frederick sank five points. Abbey Williams had three points.

Coffee County returns to district play next week with a road doubleheader at White County Monday. The girls’ game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.

Westwood boys handle North

The Westwood boys’ basketball team kicked off the week with a road victory at Franklin North Wednesday night, coming out on top 53-34.

Luke Christian was Westwood’s top scorer with 17 points. Shemwell followed right behind with 16 points. Eli Shelton added six points, finishing just ahead of Norman and Brock Christian with five points each. Campbell and Hunter Pierce each had two points.
