The Westwood Middle School boys’ basketball team returned home from Cascade Middle School with a conference championship Wednesday night.
Taking on Community in the Duck River Valley Conference Championship game, the Rockets came out on the winning end of a low-scoring battle, 24-18.
The DRVC title was the Rockets’ third straight, and added to Westwood’s conference championship trophy case for the 2025-26 school year following the football team’s undefeated run to a conference title in September.
Up 4-2 after the first quarter, Westwood maintained a narrow advantage at the end of the second quarter and went into halftime with an 11-9 lead. Still ahead 18-16 after three quarters, the Rockets were able to outscore Community 6-2 in the fourth quarter to give themselves more breathing room on the way to sealing the conference championship.
Luke Christian led the Westwood offense with eight points. Abe Norman followed with six points. Kayden Campbell and Brock Christian added four points each. Hayes Shemwell had two points.
The postseason continues for Westwood (12-2) on Jan. 10 with the play-in game for the district tournament. The East Side District Tournament will follow at North Middle School on Jan. 14.
