CHS wrestling competes at Bradley Invitational

The Coffee County wrestling team made the trip down to Cleveland the weekend before Christmas to compete in the Bradley Invitational at Bradley Central High School.

Held across both Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 20, the Red Raiders finished in 20th place out of 33 teams with 77 points. Huntsville took first place with 211.5 points.

The top individual result for Coffee County went to Kameron Stafford-Turner, who finished in second place in the 175-pound division with 23 points. After winning a 12-3 decision over Riverdale’s Elijah Reames in the 175-pound semifinals, Stafford-Turner fell to Athens’s Austin Campbell in the first-place match, falling in a 15-2 decision.

Additional Red Raiders who placed include William Barlow, who took fifth place in the 157-pound division with 22.5 points. Barlow won by fall over Blackman’s Peyton Pickens in the fifth-place match, with the fall coming at the 2:38 mark.

Coffee County wrestlers who did not place but contributed points toward the team’s total included Tanner Vernon in the 285-pound weight class with 10 points. Marcus Uselton competed in the 120-pound weight division and contributed eight points.  Jesse Lester and Eli McLean both brought in four points each in the 132-pound class and the 165-pound division, respectively. Carlos Valle-Martinez took part in the 144-pound weight class and added 3.5 points. Competing in the 190-pound weight division, Joshua Mainville was credited with two points.

Coffee County will return to the mat with a road match against Cascade and Cheatham County on Tuesday.
