Cocke County man charged in Cosby shooting

A Cosby man was charged Saturday in connection with the shooting of an acquaintance at their residence.

Austin Gray Bryant, 45, of Cosby is charged with Aggravated assault in the shooting of Nicole Lorena Gray.

According to a report from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, at 11:34 p.m. Friday, Deputy Brian Kilduff was called to Ball Park Road in Cosby where Nicole Gray had been shot. She was found in a Ford F-150 pickup truck sitting in the driver’s seat. Nicole Gray was bleeding heavily from her mouth and her shirt was soaked in blood.

After Kilduff got Nicole Gray out of the truck to treat her, he saw a bullet hole through the back glass of the truck. Nicole Gray had a gunshot wound which entered through the back of the upper right shoulder, exited the front of her shoulder and entered through the right side of her jaw.

Nicole Gray told deputies that she had backed into the driveway of Holder’s Grove Road, the residence where she had been recently staying, when Austin Bryant allegedly came out of the residence and shot her.

Nicole Gray said that she drove off to Ball Park Road where deputies met her. When a photo of Austin Bryant was shown to Nicole Gray, she confirmed that he was the person who shot her. Gray was transported via EMS and flown out for treatment at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

On the ground where Nicole Gray had been sitting, a bag of suspected meth was discovered after she had left. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were called and then went to the residence where they apprehended Bryant. The home was searched for other victims, but none were found. Several firearms were found at the residence. Bryant was taken to the Cocke County Jail.
