Man charged in Memphis’ first homicide of 2026, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police charged a man with second-degree murder after a woman was shot and killed early Sunday morning, marking the city’s first homicide of 2026. 

Officers responded to the shooting in the 3800 block of Philsdale Avenue at 2:30 a.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the suspect as 88-year-old Raymond Dowdy.

According to police, the two were in a relationship.
