Red Raiders drop home matchup to Tullahoma

Coffee County boys’ basketball came into Saturday’s return home looking to get back on track after a trio of tournament losses over the course of the previous week.

Facing off against Tullahoma, the Red Raiders were unable to right the ship, falling 68-47 for their fourth straight loss. The result also gave the Wildcats a regular season sweep of Coffee County, following a Red Raider loss in Tullahoma on Nov. 24.

Down 26-15 at halftime, Coffee County fell further behind by the end of the third quarter at 44-30. Tullahoma continued to push ahead from there on the way to winning by 21.

MJ Rollman led the Red Raider offensive effort with 24 points. Audie Nicoll brought in six points, finishing just ahead of Kaysen Lowery with five points. Luke Campbell added four points. Gabe Hambly knocked down three points. Jude Golembiewski and Brady Christian both came away with two points each. Zeke Jones had a single free throw for one point.

The loss put Coffee County at 8-7 on the season.

CHS finishes Scottsboro tournament with pair of losses

Ahead of Saturday’s home loss to Tullahoma, the Red Raiders finished up their Don Webb Classic schedule in Scottsboro, Alabama this past Monday and Tuesday.

Following a 62-50 tournament-opening loss to Kate Duncan Smith DAR (Grant, Ala.) on Dec. 27, Coffee County went on to fall 61-53 against Plainview (Rainsville, Ala.) Monday before coming out on the losing end of a 65-59 game against Red Bay (Red Bay, Ala.) Tuesday.

Trailing Plainview 17-12 after the first quarter, the Red Raiders battled back to tie the game at 30-30 going into halftime. Plainview once again gave itself some breathing room as the second half got under way, finishing the third quarter with a 45-38 lead on Coffee County. The game remained in Plainview’s favor through the fourth quarter as the Red Raiders finished down by eight.

Rollman and Nicoll led Coffee County’s scoring with 14 points each. Lowery followed with 13 points. Campbell added five points, finishing just ahead of Levi Rollman with four points. Jerrad Morgan had three points.

Back in action the next day against Red Bay, another close start put the Red Raiders down 16-13 after one quarter. Red Bay went on to expand its lead over the remainder of the third first half and went into the break leading Coffee County 33-23.

Down 52-39 at the end of the third quarter, the Red Raiders were able to tighten the Red Bay lead in the fourth quarter with 20 points in this span. It was ultimately not enough to take control as Coffee County finished the game down by six.

MJ Rollman continued to lead the Red Raider offense with 15 points. Nicoll, Lowery and Brody Sizemore all posted nine points each. Campbell followed with seven points, finishing just ahead of Morgan with six points. Christian and Levi Rollman both had one basket each for two points.
