CCMS Raiders, Lady Raiders swept by Upperman

After almost a month, Coffee County Middle School’s basketball teams resumed district play Thursday night.
Back home to host Upperman for a boys’ and girls’ doubleheader, both teams came out on the losing end of each matchup, starting with a 54-13 loss for the Lady Raiders and a 65-21 loss for the Red Raiders.
Trailing Upperman 23-9 after the first half of the girls’ game, Coffee County fell further behind as the second half got under way. Down 41-11 after three quarters, the Lady Raiders were held to just two more points in the fourth quarter on the way to finishing down by 41 points.
Brinley Frederik led the Coffee County offensive effort with seven points. Brooklyn Carlton followed with four points. Gracie Bryan had a single basket for two points.
Upperman once again got out to a quick start in the boys’ game, leading the Red Raiders 21-2 after the first quarter and 31-8 by halftime. Coffee County went on to finish the third quarter down 52-13 before closing it out trailing by 44.
Eli Morgan took the Red Raiders’ top spot on offense with 10 points. LT Carney followed with six points. Sam Geddes nailed a single trey for three points. Braxtyn Swack had a pair of free throws for two points.
Coffee County remains in district play with another doubleheader at Harris Monday evening. Tip-off of the girls’ game is set for 6 p.m.
