Water Commission Chairman announces resignation

Manchester Water and Sewer Commission Chairman Michael Anderson has tendered a letter to the mayor announcing his resignation from the board effective noon, Friday, Jan. 16.

In the letter that was also sent to local media outlets, Anderson said that he wishes the best for Director Lonnie Foley, the Water and Sewer Department and the commission.

Anderson told the Times, “I had been considering it long before Thursday.”

“My thoughts…..when you are doing volunteer work, and it ceases to be enjoyable, maybe it is time to leave,” Anderson said.

During the Jan. 8 Water and Sewer Commission meeting, Anderson challenged the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s appointment of Foley as full director, suggesting that the board needed a recommendation by the Water Commission prior to making the hire.

Members of BOMA who serve on the Water and Sewer Commission rejected Anderson’s assertion, confirming Foley’s standing with the department.

Anderson said during the meeting that he had served on the Water and Sewer Commission for 14 years.
