Arkansas police lieutenant fired after driving drunk, crashing into man, department says
HUGHES, Ark. – An Arkansas police lieutenant accused of being drunk when he struck a 19-year-old in a crash the day after Christmas has been fired, his former police department said.
The Hughes Police Department (HPD) said former Lt. Corbin Dixon said he was pursuing a suspect possibly linked to a shooting at the time of the crash on Dec. 26, 2026. “The department found no evidence to support this claim,” HPD said.
“This decision was based on sustained findings of serious violations of departmental policies, including standards of conduct, prohibitions against impairment while on duty, and requirements for safe vehicle operation,” the department said in a statement. “Such conduct is incompatible with the professional standards we uphold.”

FOX13 previously reported that 19-year-old Peyton Gregory was on his way to work when he was hit and thrown from his truck near Helena-West Helena. According to a police report, Dixon was drunk at the time of the crash and driving a police car. A portable breath test showed that Dixon’s blood alcohol content was at 0.12% — in Arkansas, the legal limit is 0.08%.
Hughes police said the Helena-West Helena Police Department — the leading investigating agency — has filed criminal charges against Dixon, including driving drunk and battery in the second degree.
