CHS wrestling finishes strong at MTWOA Grand Championships

The Coffee County wrestling team made the trip to Wilson Central High School Saturday to take part in the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association Grand Championship.

Both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders earned multiple podium spots over the course of the day, including multiple first-place finishes on the boys’ side.

These first-place finishes for the Coffee County boys’ team included Joshua Mainville in the 190-pound weight class, who won by fall in the first-place match over Franklin’s Evan Crowell at the 2:54 mark. Caden Harris added a first-place finish in the 285-pound weight division, taking down Blackman’s Joey Crismon with 4:33 left on the board. Jacob Kimball followed with a first-place finish in the 235-239 weight class, winning by fall over Hendersonville’s Elijah Ortega in the third-round match with 1:25 on the clock.

Marcus Uselton added a second-place finish in the 120-pound weight class, winning by fall with 33 seconds on the clock over Cheatham County’s Kai Berry in the semifinals before falling in the first-place match. Kerry Norris also took second place in the 260-279 weight division, winning via a 4-0 decision over Warren County’s Chris Owens in the second round.

Toccoa Gaines came away with a third-place finish in the 144-pound weight class, winning by fall over Independence’s Elijah Mortiz at the 3:30 mark of the third-place match.

Caiden Kidd took fourth place in the 138-pound weight class, winning by fall over Centennial’s Jacob Freeman at the 2:57 mark of the consolation semifinal before falling in the third-place match. Brandon Robinson and Zachery Garcia both finished fourth in the 123-129 and 140-141 weight divisions, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Ellysia Jennings led the way with a second-place finish in the 165-pound weight class, taking down Rossview’s Taelyn Atkinson in a sudden victory before falling in the first-place match.

Aime Miller picked up a third-place finish in the 138-pound weight class, winning by fall in the third-place match over Cheatham County’s Sydney Kirby with 3:50 on the board. Jianna Bare followed with a third-place finish of her own, winning by fall over Warren County’s Maya Reagan in the third-place match with 46 seconds on the clock.

Jasmine Norris took fourth place in the 126-pound weight class, winning by fall over Collierville’s Madison Moore at the 1:18 mark of the quarterfinal round before falling in the third-place match.
