CARTER
Gracie Pearl Carter passed away peacefully at her home, with loved ones by her side, on January 2nd, 2026. She was 87 years old. Gracie was born in Cannon County, to Eula Jack and Birdie Rhea Simmons, along with her siblings, Horace Simmons, Charlie Simmons, and Ordway Gaither. Also, she had siblings, Howard Simmons, and Nola Brown. She married Bennie H Carter, Jr., her happily ever after as she called him, on April 12th, 1954. They were married for 59 years. They had three daughters, Deborah Duke, Rita Duke, and Donna Jacobs. She was also blessed with several loving and caring grandchildren, along with great grandchildren. Gracie worked as a seamstress before becoming a homemaker to care for her girls. Along with gardening, canning and freezing for her family’s needs, she loved her flower gardens, watching for every new bloom in the spring. Giving her life to God as a child, her faith was unwavering, saying that every circumstance in life, whether it be good or bad, was in God’s hands, and God’s will be done. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bennie H Carter, Jr., her siblings, Horace Simmons, Charlie Simmons, Howard Simmons, Nola Brown, and a son-in-law, Rickey Duke. She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Duke, Rita Duke, (Eddie), Donna Jacobs, (Ronnie), her Sister, Ordway Gaither, (Tom) and a special Sister-in-law, Elizabeth Simmons, along with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Her Nieces and Nephews, and a Host of Life Long Friends. Services were held at Manchester Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 7 with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. and funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Burial at Farrar Hill Cemetery in Manchester. David Rash officiated services.
