Man shot after domestic situation escalates into gunfire with people trying to intervene, MPD says
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot after he was accused in a domestic fight with his girlfriend at a Parkway Village gas station that escalated into gunfire involving people who were trying to intervene, police said.
According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers were called just after midnight to the Express Mart on Knight Arnold Road at Watson Street for an aggravated assault with shots fired. There, a witness told investigators that he was saw a man fighting with a woman before he and others tried to stop it.
Police said that led to the man to pull out a gun, firing a shot into the air and another shot at the parking of a tire repair shop across the street. The witness told MPD that the couple left together in a car.
Police said the officers found the suspected gunman nearby, adding that he appeared to have been shot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, MPD said. The man’s girlfriend told MPD that while her boyfriend was pumping gas, a group of up to five men approached them and started arguing.

One of the men took out a gun and opened fire, the woman told MPD.
Later in their investigation, officers spoke with the owner of the tire repair shop. He told MPD that two shots were fired from the parking lot of a nearby business, adding that he saw a customer get out of his car and returned fire.
The tire shop owner declined to provide further details about what happened.
