PREP ROUNDUP: CHS softball comes up short against Tullahoma

A single run in the bottom of the seventh inning cost Coffee County softball in Tullahoma Sunday.
Scoreless through the first six innings of the rivalry matchup, the Lady Cats walked it off on an RBI single with two outs to hand the Lady Raiders a 1-0 loss.
Cara Newlin, Ella Arnold and Haleigh Skipper each had one hit for a team total of two.
Lily Norman pitched a complete game, finishing with nine strikeouts, four hits, one run and four walks.
Coffee County (14-15) returns home to host Cascade Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Coffee County falls to Summit, Liberty Creek Saturday
The Lady Raiders opened the weekend with a pair of games as part of their Coffee County Classic schedule Saturday.
Coffee County fell in both contests, starting with an 11-6, five-inning loss to Summit before being held scoreless in a 9-0, four-and-a-half-inning loss to Liberty Creek.
Raelyn Wainwright led the way at the plate against Summit with three of the team’s seven hits. Arnold followed with two. Kamryn Hoback and Taylor McBride both had one hit each.
Wainwright also took the top spot in RBI with three of the team’s five, with Madison Waller adding the remaining two.
Kaylee Buckley got it going in the circle, coming out after two innings with one hit. Skipper took her place, adding one strikeout, nine hits, 11 runs and one walk over the last three innings.
Arnold had the team’s lone hit against Liberty Creek.
Yeidy Cruz stayed in the circle for the entire game, wrapping it up with four strikeouts, eight hits, nine runs and three walks.
High School Baseball
Coffee County 11, LaVergne 0
The Red Raiders returned home from Rutherford County with a dominant, six-inning shutout victory Saturday afternoon.
Coffee County finished the game with 12 hits, led by Carter Bell with four. Preston Steele and Matt Moore both added three each. Davis McKenzie and Chase Leonard each had one hit.
Bell also led the team in RBI with three of its nine. Pruitt and Moore brought in two each. Steele and Leonard each had one RBI.
Boone Floyd went the distance on the mound, striking out six and holding LaVergne to three hits and two walks over the course of the game.
The win put Coffee County at 16-11 on the season.
Middle School Softball
Westwood 11, Fayetteville City 10
Tied at 8-8 after seven innings, the Lady Rockets overcame a pair of runs in the top of the eighth with three of their own in the bottom of the inning to secure a walk-off home victory Saturday.
Elly Wild connected on three of Westwood’s nine hits. Maleah Chavis and Izzy Sartain both had two hits each. McKenna Kehely and McClayne Finch each had one hit.
Chavis, Wild and Finch all brought in two RBI each. Sartain, Kehely and Callie Kapise each had one RBI.
Kehely pitched through the top of the eighth inning, compiling 13 strikeouts, seven hits, 10 runs and seven walks. Skyleigh Cooper went on to close it out.
Westwood (7-9) hosts Connon County at 5 p.m. Monday.
Middle School Baseball
Forrest 12, Westwood 2
Trailing 3-2 after the top of the third, seven Forrest runs in the bottom of the inning cost the Rockets on the way to a road loss Saturday.
Brock Christian was credited with two of Westwood’s four hits. Logan McKenzie and Will Levengood each had one.
Brock Christian also had both of the team’s two RBI.
Luke Christian got it going on the mound, coming off in the bottom of the second inning with two strikeouts, four hits, three runs and two walks. Up next was Levengood, who came off in the bottom of the third inning with four hits, seven runs and two walks. Jackson Vernon closed it out from there, finishing with three hits, two runs and two walks.
The loss put Westwood at 12-9 on the season.

High School Boys’ Soccer
Coffee County 1, Franklin County 0
A single goal in the first half secured a home district victory for the Red Raiders Friday night.
The win improved Coffee County to 5-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 within the district.
Coffee County remains in district play with a home match against Warren County at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Middle School Softball
Coffee County 11, Tullahoma 2
The Lady Raiders completed the series sweep of their cross-county rival with a five-inning road victory Friday.
The team finished with eight hits and nine RBI.
Amaya Campbell pitched all five innings, striking out seven and limiting Tullahoma to three hits and two runs.
Coffee County (12-5) remains on the road to take on Blackman at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Middle School Baseball
Tullahoma 11, Coffee County 5
The Red Raiders returned home from Tullahoma with their second loss to the rival Wildcats in as many days Friday, with the team coming off a 13-5 home loss to Tullahoma Thursday as well.
Bentley Ater, Mason Floyd, Tucker Nowicki and Tyler Campbell each had one hit for a team total of four.
Floyd and Campbell also had one RBI each for two as a team.
Braxton Swack pitched the first four innings, coming off with four strikeouts, five hits, four runs and two walks. Ater came on in relief and added two strikeouts, four hits, seven runs and five walks until he was replaced in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kasen Shelton followed to close it out before the game ended after six innings.
Coffee County (7-7) returns to action with a road trip to Blackman Tuesday. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
