Woman charged with identity theft over Facebook post
B
A Madisonville woman is being charged with identity theft after she allegedly posted an arrest warrant on Facebook with a person’s Social Security number on it.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Det. Conway Mason said he was told Emilie Berger had posted a warrant for the arrest of a man on Facebook with identifying information, such as the Social Security number, date of birth and driver’s license name on it.
Mason said he contacted the victim, who was charged with hiding drugs at Sequoyah High School for work release inmates to find, and the victim said he hadn’t told anybody to post his information to social media.
Mason said he then contacted Berger, who said she’d taken the post down when she was told it had all the information on it, redacted the information and put it back up.
Mason said since Berger didn’t have permission to post the information, he placed her under arrest.
Berger, no age available, Oak Grove Road, Madisonville, is charged with identity theft.
