CHS baseball blanks Tipton Christian

The Coffee County baseball team needed just four innings to open its week with a victory Tuesday evening.

Taking on Tipton Christian at Shelbyville Central High School, the Red Raiders jumped out for five runs in the bottom of the first on the way to a 16-0 routing. This was also Coffee County’s fourth straight win after opening the season with a trio of losses.

The team finished with 13 hits, led by Davis McKenzie and Boone Floyd with three each. Preston Steele and Jaxon Pruitt followed with two each, with one of Steele’s coming as a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Austin Gipson, Elijah Vernon and Matt Moore each had one hit.

Steele was credited with four of Coffee County’s 13 RBI. Floyd followed with three, finishing just ahead of McKenzie with two. Gipson, Pruitt, Moore and Landan Abellana had one RBI each.

On the mound, Leiton Yancer struck out eight and held Tipton Christian to one hit across all four innings.

Coffee County (4-3) travels to Lynchburg to take on Moore County Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
