PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Coffee County splits with Franklin

Both Coffee County Central High School basketball teams were back in action Thursday night, welcoming Franklin for a doubleheader at Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium.

Opening with the girls’ game, the Lady Raiders moved to 2-0 on the season with a 56-48 victory over the Lady Admirals. The Red Raiders were unable to follow up in the second game, coming out on the wrong end of a 66-46 loss to fall to 1-1 overall.

In the girls’ game, Natalie Barnes again led the way with 24 points. Audri Patton and Jaydee Nogodula both followed with seven points each, finishing just ahead of Kaysen Morgan with six points. Adalyn Clark and Hayleigh Harris each added five points. Lilly Matherne had two free throws for two points.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will be back in action Saturday, with the Lady Raiders hosting Moore County at 3 p.m. and the Red Raiders hosting Beech at Coffee County Middle School for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Westwood boys bounce Cascade

Westwood Middle School basketball was back in action Thursday evening, welcoming Cascade for a district matchup.

The Rockets continued to stay hot, coming out on top in the boys’ game 51-39.

Brock Christian paced the offense with 21 points on seven 3-pointers. Kayden Campbell and Luke Christian followed with 11 points each. Hayes Shemwell added six points. Abe Norman had a single basket for two points.

Westwood remains in district play with a road game at Community this evening. The girls’ game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
