Coffee County football faced a difficult task Friday night, traveling to Ravenwood for a Region 6-6A matchup against the undefeated Raptors.

Ravenwood backed up its first-place spot in the region standings, jumping out early on the way to defeating the Red Raiders 42-7.

The loss was Coffee County’s fifth straight. It also put the Red Raiders at 2-7 overall and 1-4 in region play to remain in sixth place.

The Raptors wasted no time getting on the board, reaching the end zone on the second play of the game’s first possession. After a three-and-out for the Coffee County offense on the following drive, Ravenwood returned to paydirt once again on a 50-yard pass to put the Red Raiders in a 14-0 hole with 9:27 left in the first quarter.

The Raptors continued to push ahead from there, adding another touchdown via a 23-yard run from Cy Longley to make it a 21-0 game with over eight minutes still remaining in the first quarter. Ravenwood would go on to score one more time as the clock struck zero on the first quarter, putting Coffee County down 28-0 to enter the second.

The Red Raiders briefly slowed the Raptors’ advance in the second quarter on an interception from Teagan Stem, but were unable to capitalize on their ensuing drive and forced to punt.

Ravenwood got back on track on its next possession, scoring a touchdown in two plays to make it a 35-0 game with 4:38 left until halftime.

The Raptors went on to score one more time on a 15-yard carry from Jared Peterson to send Coffee County into the break trailing 42-0.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Red Raiders opened the fourth on the Ravenwood 23-yard line following an earlier 34-yard pass from Caleb Hill to Kane Dixon to set them up deep in Raptor territory.

Three plays later, Jordan Thompson ran the ball in from the Ravenwood 5-yard line for a Coffee County touchdown with 9:52 remaining in the game.

This would ultimately be the Red Raiders’ only scoring drive before time expired.

Coffee County will look to close out the regular season in the win column with a region matchup at Shelbyville Central this Thursday. The Golden Eagles head into the game with a 4-5 overall record and a 3-2 record in region play, putting them in third place behind Ravenwood and Brentwood. This past Thursday, Shelbyville Central defeated Hendersonville at home 42-31.

Kickoff for next week’s game is set for 7 p.m.
