Raiders fall to Harris
The Coffee Middle Red Raiders played host to Harris for their day game on Tuesday, Sept.10 losing to the Eagles in a close one, 34-26.
Harris would receive the ball on the opening kickoff and begin their first drive on their own 34.
The Red Raider defense was close to getting a stop on their first drive, but the Eagles converted on a fourth-and-long to keep the drive going.
Harris would eventually score the game’s first touchdown with 2:54 remaining in the first quarter on a rushing play, capping it off with a two point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
Coffee County’s first drive would start on their own 49 yard line and last through the first minute of the second quarter, but the Red Raiders would be stopped at the Harris 30 in a turnover on downs.
The Red Raider defense was able to force a punt on the next Eagle possession, but the Raiders coughed the ball up on the first play of their next drive, giving the Eagles the ball back.
Harris would take advantage, scoring on a rushing touchdown, but missing the two point conversion to take a 14-0 lead.
Joe Jordan and Brody Crase both picked up first downs on the ground in the next Coffee County drive, but the Raiders again had trouble holding the football, fumbling on the Harris 27.
Coffee County’s defense would get another stop on the Harris offense, forcing the Eagles into another punting situation, but the snap was mishandled and the Red Raiders would get the ball back on the Harris 19.
The Red Raiders took advantage of the prime field position, as Joe Jordan caught a touchdown pass to put the Red Raiders on the board, 14-6.
Harris would have over 30 seconds left to try and extend the lead, but Donovan Whigham snatched the ball out of the air for a Coffee County interception, and the Red Raiders would go into the locker room down 14-6.
Coffee County’s first drive of the second half would end on a punt, backing Harris to their own 16 yard line, but the Eagles broke free on a rushing play to score a touchdown and extend their lead to 20-6.
The Red Raider offense would get back in gear on their next drive, as Harris was hit with a late hit penalty after a big run by Brody Crase, advancing the ball to the Harris 26.
Coffee County would cash in on a rushing touchdown by Isaac Barnes, making the score 20-12 Harris with over four minutes left in the third quarter.
Momentum started swinging in Coffee County’s way, as Jordan Henley intercepted a passing play by Harris and took it all the way back for a touchdown. The Raiders would fail the two point conversion and still trail 20-18.
Harris would get some points back on their next drive, scoring on a passing touchdown to make the score 26-18.
Coffee County’s next possession would run through the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, as another Harris penalty helped the Raiders advance the ball down to the Harris 15.
Joe Jordan would score his second touchdown of the day on a rushing play, and Coffee County would convert a two point try to tie the game at 26-26 with 5:07 to go.
Harris would run almost the entirety of the five minutes remaining on the game clock, marching down the field and scoring a passing touchdown with 23 ticks on the clock to go. The Eagles would complete a two point conversion and retake the lead 34-26.
With little time remaining, Coffee County tried a few laterals on their last play of the game, but Harris held on for the win.
The Coffee Middle Red Raiders fall to 1-5 on the season and their regular season finale will take place at Tullahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
