Westwood Basketball ends regular season with split of Tullahoma West

On Monday night, the Westwood Basketball regular season came to a close as the Rockets won yet again, and the Lady Rockets fell to Tullahoma West.
The Lady Rockets dug a huge hole early on against the Lady Bobcats and couldn’t climb their way back out.
Tullahoma West rattled off an 11-0 run to start the game before outscoring the Lady Rockets 15-3 in the first quarter.
The Lady Bobcats continued to pour it on in the second quarter, outscoring Westwood 17-4 to lead at halftime, 32-7.
Westwood came back fighting after halftime, outscoring the Lady Bobcats 11-6, but Tullahoma West still led 38-18 going into the fourth, where they would win the game, 46-20.
“Our goal coming into the game was to have more of a fun, let-loose type of game,” said Coach Shala Ferrell. “I feel like they started to play more relaxed in the second half. I’m sad to see our eighth graders go, and our returning players will have to work harder in the offseason, particularly on set shots and scoring off of the dribble.”
Scoring for the Lady Rockets were Allison Russ and Zallona Dillard with seven points each, Shaylee Meadows and Jerzee Ferrell with two points each, and Carter Trail and Maci Jackson with one point each.
The Westwood Lady Rockets end their season with a 5-14 record.
Meanwhile, the Rockets were looking to close out an incredible regular season.
Fresh off of their DRVC Championship run, the Westwood Rockets started out strong before defeating the Bobcats.
The Rockets came out flying, outscoring Tullahoma West 16-2 in the first quarter.
Westwood did not let up in the second quarter, doubling their point total to lead 32-13 at halftime.
The Bobcats managed to hold the Rockets to nine points in the third, but Westwood still led 41-20 heading into the fourth, and the Rockets closed the game out for a 48-33 win.
“We wanted to come out and take charge early on,” said Coach Anita Gannon. “Tullahoma West has a great team with great players and we certainly didn’t want to give them the hot hand in their own gym. I thought we could have done better in the second half with our man-to-man defense, and we didn’t shoot the ball as well in the second half, but those are things we have to work on to be ready for the State Tournament.”
Scoring for the Rockets were Mason Troxler with 14 points, Zeke Jones with nine points, Isaiah Buchanan and Caleb Hill with eight points each, Brady Christian with seven points and Kaden Ingle with two points.
The Westwood Rockets close out the regular season with a stellar 20-2 record, which includes an 8-0 record at their home stomping grounds of Joel Vinson Gymnasium, a 16 game winning streak to close out the year and the DRVC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.
However, the season is far from over for the Rockets, as they set their sights on the State Tournament.
