Coffee County dives into swimming season

On Friday, November 10, the swimming season for Coffee County’s schools began with their first meet.

The meet consisted of 25 different events for middle school and high school swimmers.

In the relay events, Coffee County Central placed third overall (second in high school) in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, third overall (second in high school) in the men’s 200-yard medley relay, second overall in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay and third overall (second in high school in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay.

Individually, for the High School Red Raiders, the highest finishers were Elsie Lazalier, who placed first in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke and Jack Stowe, who placed first in the men’s 50-yard freestyle.

Coffee Middle placed seventh overall (third in middle school) in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, fourth overall (second in middle school) in the men’s 200-yard medley relay, seventh overall (third in middle school) in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay and fourth overall (second in middle school) in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay.

The highest finishers for the Middle Red Raiders were Jocelyn Celedonio, who finished 13th overall (fifth in middle school) in the women’s 100-yard freestyle and Jacob Bolin, who finished seventh overall (third in middle school) in the men’s 100-yard freestyle.

Westwood placed second overall (first in middle school) in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, sixth overall (fourth in middle school) in the men’s 200-yard medley relay, fourth overall (first in middle school) in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay and fifth overall (third in middle school) in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay.

The top performers for Westwood were Avory Gilday, who placed third overall (first in middle school) in the women’s 100-yard butterfly and sixth (first in middle school) in the 100-yard backstroke and Alex Dolack, who placed second overall (first in middle school) in the men’s 100-yard freestyle.

Grace Academy High School placed first in the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay.

The top high school performers for Grace were Addison Yates, who finished first overall in the women’s 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, Jaci Howlett, who first in the women’s 200-yard freestyle, Rosealea Buchanan, who finished first in the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Ryan Brown, who finished first in the men’s 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle and Isaac Lee, who placed first in the men’s 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly.

The top middle school performers for Grace were Alyssa Yates, who placed second overall (first in middle school) in the women’s 200-yard Individual Medley, and in the 500-yard freestyle, Abby Shadden who placed fourth overall (first in middle school) in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke.

The next swim meet for Coffee County’s swim teams will be on Tuesday, Nov. 14th at the Winchester Swimplex.
