Lady Raiders and Rockets get wins in rematch at The Patch

The Lady Raiders and Westwood Rockets both continued their long winning streaks after winning their games on Friday night.
The Coffee Middle Lady Raiders continued their stellar season with a win over the Westwood Lady Rockets.
The Lady Raiders would start the game well, leading 16-9 after the end of the first, then they preceded to shut out the Lady Rockets in the second, outscoring them 20-0 to lead 36-9 at the half.
Coffee County would outscore Westwood 21-17 in the second half to cruise to a 57-26 win and a season sweep of their cross-town rivals.
“Our defense has come along really well,” said Coffee Coach David Vinson. “Our defense turns into offense and that’s what we’ve been striving for. We played them a lot better this time than we did back in October.”
“We struggled a lot more with pressure this time than we did last time, ” said Westwood Coach Shala Ferrell. “I want us to get to a point where we can compete for a full four quarters.”
Scoring for the Lady raiders were Hayleigh Harris with 15 points, Jenslee Nogodula and Addalyn Clark each had 10 points, Kinsley Pruitt had nine, Harper Crosslin had six, Isabella Sanner had four and Brylyn McAdams had three.
Scoring for the Lady Rockets were Jerzee Ferrell with 12 points, Zallona Dillard with seven, Allison Russ with four, Carter Trail with two and Maci Jackson with one.
On the boys side, Westwood upped their win streak to 10 games after completing a season sweep of the Red Raiders.
The Rockets flew out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter, then outscored the Red Raiders 14-7 in the second quarter for a 25-11 halftime lead.
Each team scored nine in the third quarter, with the score 34-20 in favor of Westwood, before the Rockets closed it out in the fourth for a 44-29 win.
“I think both teams have gotten a lot better,” said Westwood Coach Anita Gannon. “As a coach, you like to see that, and I think our team is working together better than we’ve ever had.”
“We did keep it closer this time,” said Coffee Coach Jonathan Oliver. “But they set the tone in the first half and we waited until the second to respond. We need to work on our aggressiveness and tenacity.”
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Ethan Arnold with nine points, Ryan Abellana with six, Jaxon Pruitt with four, Landyn Stiefel and Jack Oliver with three points each and Jerrad Morgan and Warren Simmons with two points each.
Scoring for the Rockets were Mason Troxler with 17 points, Caleb Hill with 12 points, Brady Christian with six, Isaiah Buchanan with five and Zeke Jones with four.
Both teams go on a long break before returning on Monday, Nov. 27, with Coffee traveling to Tullahoma East and Westwood playing host to Community.
