Coffee sends four runners to state championships

Manchester’s Old Stone Fort Golf Course played host to the high school Region 4 AAA Cross Country championships Tuesday, Oct. 24.

At the meet, Coffee County’s Kailee Rossman finished seventh in the girl’s 5000 meter run with a time of 20:50.00, finishing 2:28 behind winner Leila Hailey of Rockvale.

Also placing for the Coffee County girls out of a field of 66 were Baily Kitts in 14th, Chloe Hensiek in 18th, Madison Miller in 22nd, Katrine Rhodes in 30th, Emma Keenan in 37th and Carleigh Freeman in 41st.

As a team, the Coffee County girls placed fourth out of eight schools, 51 points behind first place Siegal, 37 behind second place Rockvale and just one point behind third place Blackman, keeping Coffee County as a team out of the State Championship.

However, Rossman, Kitts and Hensiek all qualified individually for the State Championships.

On the boys’ side, Coffee County’s Cayden Miller placed 13th in the boys 5000 meter run, with a time of 17:46.00, which was 1:58 behind winner Tat Vinson of Rockvale.

Also placing for Coffee County in a field of 79 were Thompson Lowe in 43rd, Thane Burns in 46th and Everett Masters, Jacsen Yancer, Jesus Gonzales and Ismael Salazar placed 55th-58th.

As a team, the Coffee County boys placed eighth in a field of 11 schools, and failed to qualify for State, but Miller qualified for the State Championships as an individual.

The State Cross Country Championships will take place on Thursday, November 2 at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville, with the Class AAA girls race starting at 1:50 CT, and the boys race 2:40.
