On Tuesday night, the Coffee Central Red Raiders beat the Franklin County Rebels to get their first win of the season at The Patch.

Going into the game, Coffee had lost their previous four games at Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium to start the season, and had been on a three game losing streak.

The visitors from Winchester had the edge to start, as Franklin County led 15-12 at the end of the first, but Coffee charged ahead in the second, outscoring the Rebels 22-8 in the quarter with help from Cooper Reed, who scored nine of his 11 first half points in the second quarter and the Red Raiders led 34-23 at the half.

Franklin County decided to make it a ball game in the third quarter, outscoring the Red Raiders 19-8 to tie the score at 42-42 with one quarter to go.

The Red Raiders took control in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Rebels 15-8 to win the game, 57-50.

“I liked our work on the glass,” said Coach Andrew Taylor. “We rebounded the ball really well tonight and I think we got a lot of good shots around the basket tonight.”

For the Red Raiders, it was their first win of the season at The Patch.

“We have unbelievable community support”, said Taylor. “We have support that a lot of places dream about, and you want to put a good product out there on the floor. As a team, you have to take care of business on your home court and it was big to get that first home win of the season.”

Scoring for the Red Raiders in this one were Cooper Reed with 22 points, Jackson Shemwell and Brady Wright with nine points each, Jayden Carter with six points, Cayden Trail with five points, Courtland Ferrar with four points and Camden Hunt with two points.

The Red Raiders are now 3-4 on the season and their next game will be on the road at Blackman on Friday, Dec. 8. where they will be looking to avenge their loss to the Blaze back on Nov. 28.

“We have to take care of the ball and take better shots against them this time,” said Taylor. “If we can take care of the ball, we’ll be in the game.”
