Pastors, state leaders to hold prayer event on square

State Reps. Monty Fritts and Rush Bricken, Sen. Janice Bowling and a group of local pastors will hold meeting at the Coffee County Courthouse at 2 p.m., July 29 to read House Joint Resolution 0803, calling for prayer in fasting for the citizens of the state.
“We hope many citizens will join us for the event,” Bricken said. “We need to encourage all citizens to commit or recommit to their faith and belief in the power of prayer. This is just one way, and as the resolution states, (the notion) goes back to our country’s founding fathers. Sadly, today we need it more than ever to get our nation back on the right road.”
HJR 803 was signed by Governor Bill Lee on April 16. During this year’s General Assembly, 82 Representatives and 27 Senators voted in the affirmative on the bill.
The “Be It Resolved” resolution prescribes the period of July 1 through July 31 to be recognized as a time of prayer and fasting in Tennessee.
It recognizes “God for who He is, the Creator and King of all Glory who has the authority to judge and to bless nations and states. The statement asks the Lord Jesus to heal our land, and remove the violence, addiction, and corruption.”
