Rain doesn’t drown out Coffee County Fair

Despite showers making landfall Friday, the Coffee County Fair continued running at full speed through the weekend with more shows, contests, races and plenty of rides.

Kicking off fair week was the Bullwhip Rodeo in the Center Ring for both Friday and Saturday evening, along with Megan Renee Smith being crowned Fairest of the Fair contest. Also taking place at Coffee County Central High School was the baby shows Sunday afternoon. Concluding the first weekend of the fair will be the Mountain Highway Bluegrass band at the center ring Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Monday saw the Open Class Car Show and Predator Racing Monster Trucks taking place at the Center Ring while the Little Miss Coffee County Contest also took place at the Coffee County Central High School. Tuesday was a night for karaoke and wrapping up the pageants with the Junior Miss Coffee County Contests.

Wednesday and Thursday’s gates will open at 4 p.m., with Friday’s gates opening at 9 a.m. and Saturday’s gates opening at 8 a.m. Gates for the rides will open at 5 p.m. for Wednesday and Thursday, 1 p.m. for Friday and 11 a.m. for Saturday. Prior to the gates opening the Senior Citizen’s Program will take place at 9 a.m. at the Center Ring, while the night’s main event will be Southern States Wrestling at 6 p.m. at the Center Ring.

Thursday night will see performances from Solstice and The Huffer Brothers at 5 p.m. and 6:454 p.m. respectively before the night’s main act Four on The Floor take to the stage at the Center Ring at 8:30 p.m.

Friday is Youth Field Day at the fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to noon., with ice cream contests at 2 p.m. at the Center Stage, the beard and mullet contest at 5 p.m. at the Center Ring and the mud race at the track at 7 p.m. The livestock barn will also be holding the Open and Junior Beef Cattle Show at 6 p.m.

Concluding the week of fair activities Saturday will be the dog and pet show at 9 a.m. at the Center Ring, a pedal pull at 11:30 a.m. at the Center Ring and the watermelon eating contest at 2 p.m. at the Center Ring.

Saturday’s livestock shows kickoff at 11:30 a.m. with the Open and Junior Beef Cattle Show, the 4-H Chick Chain Show and Sale at noon, the Farmer’s Olympics at 2 p.m. and the rooster crowing contest at 4 p.m. Closing out the evening will be a mule race at the center ring at 4 p.m. and a mud race at the track at 7 p.m.
