CHS wrestling falls to Riverdale

The Coffee County wrestling team made its home debut Tuesday night, welcoming Riverdale to Raider Academy for duals action.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams came out on the losing end of each matchup, with the Lady Raiders falling 36-18 and the Red Raiders following this up with a 39-30 loss.

Girls’ winners for Coffee County included Jasmine Norris, who won by pin over Ja`Kaylee Neal in the 126-pound weight class. Gabrielle Silva followed this up in the 132-pound weight division, taking down Destiny Robinson via another pin. Jiana Bare added to the Lady Raiders’ points total with a forfeit win in the 145 class.

On the boys’ side, Coffee County’s winners included Marcus Uselton over Arkangelo Maiwea in the 120-pound weight class via a pin. Competing in the 144-pound weight division, Carlos Valle-Martinez took down Ethan Southivong through a pin to add another Red Raider victory.

William Barlow went on to pin Gavin Frost in the 157 class. Eli McClean followed this up with a pin victory over Davis Mooney in the 165 division. Coffee County added one more win before the evening’s conclusion, courtesy of Eli Gipson pinning Jaden Phouphonh to take the 190-pound weight class.

Coffee County gets back on the road to face Marion County and Notre Dame (Chattanooga) at Marion County High School Thursday. Wrestling is set to start at 6 p.m.
