PREP ROUNDUP: High school, middle school teams compete in Thursday matchups

Multiple teams at both the high school and middle school levels were in action across the area and beyond Thursday evening.

In the Cookeville area, Coffee County baseball won in dominant fashion over Upperman, returning home with an 18-4, five-inning victory.

The Red Raiders posted 16 hits over the course of the game, with Davis McKenzie leading the way at five. Landan Abellana, Preston Steele, Grayson Sadler and Chase Leonard each had two hits. This included a two-run home run for Steele in the top of the first inning. Boone Floyd, Kaysen Morrison and Matt Moore all had one hit each.

McKenzie was credited with four of Coffee County’s 15 RBI. Steele followed with three RBI. Abellana and Floyd added two each. Morrison, Sadler, Leonard and Jaxon Pruitt each had one RBI.

Xander Meeks pitched the first three innings, coming off with two strikeouts, seven hits and four runs to earn the win. Austin Gipson took his place, adding four walks through the bottom of the fifth inning. Kasen Shores followed to close out the game for the final at-bat.

Coffee County (15-11) remains on the road to take on LaVergne Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.

High School Softball

Shelbyville Central 6, Coffee County 4

Three Golden Eaglette runs in the bottom of the sixth inning ultimately cost the Lady Raiders on the way to a road district loss Thursday.

Coffee County finished the game with seven hits, including two each for Ella Arnold and Kamryn Hoback. Raelyn Wainwright, Haleigh Skipper and Maddi Scott each had one.

Wainwright and Hoback each had one RBI for a team total of two.

Scott pitched a complete game, wrapping it up with six strikeouts, 10 hits, six runs and two walks.

Coffee County (14-12, 4-3 district) returns home to host the Coffee County Classic Friday and Saturday. The Lady Raiders’ tournament games include Summit at 1:20 p.m. and Liberty Creek at 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

High School Boys’ Soccer

Coffee County 2, Warren County 2

The Red Raiders came away with Class 3A District 9 draw in McMinnville Thursday night.

The result followed a 2-1 road district win for Coffee County over Columbia on Tuesday.

Coffee County (4-5-1, 4-3-2 district) returns home to host district foe Franklin County at 7 p.m. Friday.

High School Tennis

CHS falls to Warren

Coffee County closed out the regular season with a home loss to Warren County Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Raiders had one doubles win for the team of Carrington Saner and Illy Allen on the way to a 6-1 loss. The Red Raiders were unable to secure a match win on the way to falling 7-0.

Up next for Coffee County are the district team quarterfinals, which are set to begin at 3 p.m. Monday.

Middle School Softball

Coffee County 13, Tullahoma 1

The Lady Raiders needed just three innings to secure a home win over their cross-county rival Thursday.

Addie Haley led the way at the plate with two of the team’s seven hits. Amaya Campbell, Izzy Haines, Siri Cruz, Aubrey Brown and Kayda Ferrell had one hit each.

Brown connected on three of the team’s nine RBI. Campbell followed with two. Haley, Cruz, Ferrell and Britlyn Jones each had one RBI.

Cruz took care of business in the circle, striking out seven and holding Tullahoma to one hit, one run and one walk over all three innings.

Coffee County (11-5) travels to Tullahoma for a rematch at 5 p.m. Friday.
