‘Little Shop of Horrors’ takes a bite at the MAC

The classic horror comedy rock musical “Little Shop of Horrors,” Millennium Repertory Company’s first show of 2024, will open Jan. 19 at the Manchester Arts Center.

With a catchy 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown score by Menken and Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), it’s the funniest show to ever make you rethink gardening,” said show Director Jason Griffey.

Griffey’s cast also features Jonathan Higdon as Orin (and six other roles), Abbie Fults, Janette King, and Alexis Phillips as the R&B/doo-wop trio, Joel Longstreth as Mr. Mushnik, Alex Torrejon as Audrey II, Jonathon Duke and Ethan Duke as puppeteers, along with Bob Jarman, Mason McDonald, and Charlotte Hubble.

Music director is Roy Adams, and choreography is by Eliza Griffey and Danelle Afflerbaugh.

One hapless flower shop worker (Roy Adams), a nerd with no prospects.

His co-worker crush (Heather Hewgley), who’s got boyfriend problems.

And there’s one very hungry plant with unusual appetites – and no interest in normal plant food.

Little Shop of Horrors runs Jan. 19 – 28, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, and $10 for students, and are available at millenniumrep.org or by calling 931.570.4489.

This show has minor language and comic violence and is not recommended for pre-teens. The Arts Center is located just off Manchester’s historic square at 128 E. Main St.
