Coffee County government has donated $1,000 to contribute to the City of Manchester’s Safe on the Square event and haunted house scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 31.

This year the annual haunted house held each year on Oct. 31 at Manchester Fire Department is planned for the open space between Owen’s Provisions and the Bush Insurance office on W. Fort St., Manchester.

Alderman Joey Hobbs said that the kid-friendly haunted house will run from 5:30-8 p.m. on the square, following Safe on the Square that will kick off at 3 p.m.

Hobbs said the haunted house will be a collaboration between the Parks and Recreation Department, Manchester Fire Department and the County Health Welfare and Recreation Commission to hold the event.

“We have county and city involvement to make it a little bigger and better,” he said. “We want to thank the county, Mayor Matheny and (Commissioner Jimmy) Hollandsworth for the contribution.”

Matheny said that HWR brought the matter to the attention of the Mayor’s office.

“We are glad to help Manchester do this,” Matheny said. “It’s been a huge event every year and we are glad to help Manchester do this and make it that much better and keep everybody safe.”
