Coffee splits Friday night matchup at Columbia

On Friday, the Lady Raiders dominated in the second half to beat the Lady Lions while the Red Raiders failed to keep pace with the Lions at Columbia Central.

The Lady Raiders fell behind in the first quarter but quickly recovered to beat Columbia Central.

It would be the Lady Lions who controlled the game at the start, with Columbia leading 10-4 after the first quarter.

The Lady Raiders came firing back in the second, with Olivia Vinson scoring 11 of Coffee’s 15 second quarter points as the Lady Raiders trailed at halftime, 21-19.

Coffee took full control of the game in the second half, outscoring Columbia 15-6 in the third quarter and 15-10 in the fourth to run away with the win, 49-37.

Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Olivia Vinson with 15 points, Ella Arnold and Jules Ferrell with 11 points each, Natalie Barnes and Ava McIntosh with five points each and Audri Patton with two points.

The Lady Raiders are now 18-3 on the year with a 2-0 district record.

Meanwhile, the four game winning streak for the Red Raiders came to an end against Columbia.

The Lions paced the opening quarter, outscoring the Red Raiders 18-9 in the first.

Coffee County tried to regain their composure in the second quarter, but Columbia still outscored them 16-14 to lead at halftime, 34-23.

The Red Raiders would outscore Columbia 13-10 in the third, but the Lions put the game away in the fourth quarter to win, 63-53.

Scoring for the Red Raiders were Cooper Reed with 22 points, Brady Wright with 10 points, Jackson Shemwell with eight points, Jayden Carter with six points and Cayden Trail with five points.

The Red Raiders are now 10-10 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Coffee County basketball returns home to play Warren County on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
