Remembering local women in history: Miss McMahan impacted generation of students
S adie Mai McMahan or Miss Sadie to many of her students, was born May 06, 1907 near Beech Grove in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Her parents, Robert Alexander (Alex) McMahan and Cordelia Florence (Delia or Deeley) Keele McMahan were married Nov. 6, 1898. Alex was a Baptist minister and at times also farmed. Later, he worked as a clerk. Sadie Mai’s family also included siblings Joseph Oriel (b. 1900), John Stanley (b. 1901), Basil Beecroft (b. 1904), Connie Nikoda [Koda] (b.1910) and Jean (b. 1921). After living in the Beech Grove/Rutherford County area throughout 1920’s, the family moved to Manchester when Sadie Mai was a senior in high school. Sadie’s mother, Delia, died in 1934. Her father married Gertrude Roberts on Sept. 28, 1935.
Tennessee Supreme Court rules for Tinsley Properties in quarry zoning dispute
T he Tennessee Supreme Court has unanimously ruled in favor of Tinsley Properties, LLC and Tinsley Sand & Gravel, LLC in Tinsley Properties, LLC et al. v. Grundy County, Tennessee, invalidating a county resolution that restricted the company’s quarry operations.

According to the ‘2023 Remodeling Impact Report: Outdoor Features’ from the National Association of Realtors ¨, standard lawn care service yields an estimated cost recovery of 217 percent. Landscape maintenance, with an estimated cost recovery of 104 percent, and an overall landscape upgrade (100 percent) also yield great returns for homeowners. The NAR¨ report also noted the effects of such projects related to homeowners’ desire to spend time on their property. Among homeowners who participated in the NAR¨ report and committed to standard lawn care service, 58 percent indicated they had a greater desire to be at home since completing the project, while 46 percent indicated they have an increased sense of enjoyment when spending time at home.
